Three DDA member practices have been awarded for their work in developing cluster-based working in Wales.
Dispensing practices Brecon Medical Group, Crickhowell Medical practice and Hay Talgarth Medical Practice are among the GPs working as Red Kite Health Solutions community interest company (CIC) to pick up the RCGP Wales Cluster Innovation award 2019 for South Powys. The CIC is also a recipient of the RCGP Bright Ideas, ‘Pioneer’ Award winners 2019 and will feature in an RCGP showcase booklet featuring innovations in primary care.
Red Kite was set up in 2015 to develop cluster-based working in Wales, as set out in the NHS Wales health policy document, A Healthier Wales. The ethos of cluster-working is to develop a separate mechanism to source and commission multidisciplinary services, and improve access to funding, and development of a multidisciplinary working: some 80 per cent of GP partners in South Powys aged 50+ and there are recruitment challenges for new GPs.
Developments led by Red Kite include telephone first – nurse triage, strengthened pharmacy support, physiotherapy MSK services, mental health partnership with MIND, and point of care testing.
