All GP practices using the electronic prescription service with TTP SystmOne and EMIS Web should be able to go live with EPS Phase 4 from Monday 7 September.
Practices that are already operating the EPS are asked to enable Phase 4 before this date to access more support from their clinical commissioning group (CCG) leads if necessary. It is also possible to arrange a go-live date via the CCG. EPS Phase 4 is not yet available in the Vision or Microtest systems.
NHS England and NHS Improvement are accelerating deployment of EPS Phase 4 in preparation for winter, says the August 6th Primary Care Bulletin. This latest version should significantly reduce the need to hand sign prescriptions and deal with lost prescriptions. Practices and pharmacies will also be able to track the status of more prescriptions using the EPS Prescription Tracker.
Pharmacies are being advised that as Phase 4 comes into effect they will increasingly see the majority of hand signed FP10s replaced by Phase 4 tokens.
However, dispensing patients will continue to default to a paper FP10 (non-barcoded) that can be shared with the dispensary, unless the patient requests that this is overridden and sent via Phase 4. This would allow a Phase 4 prescription to be sent to the spine and downloaded by the patient’s chosen pharmacy.
