Sustainable investment in accessible travel for people living in rural areas is among the manifesto calls from the Health and Social Care Alliance Scotland.

In its manifesto for the Scottish elections, Equally Valued, the Alliance of nearly 3,000 health and social care organisations also calls for community links practitioners in every GP practice in Scotland’s most deprived areas to support social prescribing.

On rural transport, the Alliance says that cars are often the default transport option due to lack of suitable public or active travel options. However, the Alliance says: “A programme of substantial investment in public transport, introducing new routes and more frequent services would support [climate change].

“It is also important that this includes physical infrastructure to improve accessibility and training public transport staff to support people with a variety of access needs.”
