The DDA has updated its home deliveries SOP to state that if a patient or their representative is not home to receive their medicines, these may be left in a safe place, provided patient has given written consent and acknowledges liability for the medication once it has left the driver’s hand.

The SOP goes on to state

  • The driver should take a photo of the medication. This process is not suitable for fridge items and CDs.
  • If there is no written consent, and patient/authorised representative is not present, medication must be returned to the surgery. Dispensary staff should be informed so a note can be made in the records.
