NHS England has admitted that it has achieved less than a quarter of the predicted savings from restricting the NHS availability of OTC medicines.

Answering a parliamentary question from Baroness Gale on August 20, NHS England said that as of July 10, it had saved only £32 million on over the counter items.

In a December 2017 consultation, NHS England estimated it would save up to £136 million by restricting the NHS availability of OTC medicines.
