The September MHRA Drug Safety Update recommends that prescribers and patients agree a treatment strategy for the use of opioids for non-cancer pain, to reduce the risks of addiction and dependence associated with long term use. Other advice contained in the update:
  • Fentanyl transdermal patches are contraindicated in opioid-naive patients in the UK
  • New measures to reduce the risk of potentially fatal overdose associated with once-weekly methotrexate
  • Risk of cutaneous amyloidosis at insulin injection sites and impact on glycaemic control.
