Nine rural areas will benefit from a £35 million research and development project to understand the benefits of 5G. Beneficiaries include: Yorkshire, Gwent, Monmouthshire, Orkney, Wiltshire, Nottinghamshire, Dorset, Shropshire and Worcestershire.

5G is said to pave the way for the adoption of new technologies such as driverless cars, remote healthcare and use of ‘smart’ devices.

The rural project is part of a UK-wide £200 million investment in 5G.
