Lower respiratory tract infections (LRTIs) tend to last longer than infections of the upper respiratory tract, and can be more serious; it is much more difficult to carry on working or going to school, for example, and there is a higher chance of being admitted to hospital.

This training, available free and exclusively to DDA members, is the second in a series of modules designed to provide practice dispensary staff with background information on the more common LRTIs and complements the previous URTI module found in the main library. Throughout this training, you will find various activities to help reinforce your learning. Ten, multiple choice questions at the end will help you identify any areas needing a quick recap.

By the end of this module you will

  • Know some of the more common lower respiratory tract infections (LRTIs), including their usual presentations and how they can be managed
  • Be aware of the potential complications of each condition and the more vulnerable patient groups
  • Understand the signs and symptoms that warrant medical referral
  • Know which of these conditions involves contact tracing and other forms of notification

DDA members can view the training, answers, and download a certificate of completion for your CPD records by visiting the online library of Dispenser Education Modules.
